Ep. 64: Unfluential

Hi! My name is Terry J. Aman and this installment marks my 64th episode of "VideoFuzzy," reporting the progress I've made in cataloging more than 2,800 VHS transfers and digital recordings. In this installment, titled "Unfluential," I allow as how my recent birthday nudged me out of the prized 18-49 marketing demographic. I congratulate "Project Runway" season 18 winner Geoffrey Mac.

In my Friday Night Feature, I feature the series finale of "The Shield." I explore the storytelling throughout that series and the media environment of the late Naughties.

In Cross Connections, I retrace some connections for "The Shield," as well as connections through "Will & Grace" and "Motherland: Fort Salem." Also, my discussion of "6 Souls" highlights it as an especially intersectional inclusion in my collection.

In my VideoFuzzy at the Movies collection, I comment on cable presentations of "Black Panther," "Thor: Ragnarok," Kenneth Branagh's "Murder on the Orient Express," "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri," "6 Souls," "mother!" and, from my own collection, "The Room." Yup, at about the 30:00 mark, this episode features the VideoFuzzy review of "The Room." You are welcome.

In my VHS-to-DVD "Classic Collection," I contrast "The Shield" with an especially disappointing second season episode of "Life." Also, comments on "Chuck," "Boston Legal," "Ugly Betty" and actor Michael Urie, "South Park," "The Simpsons," and "Criminal Minds."

In my direct-to-DVD "Current Collection," I discuss the series finale of "The Magicians," along with comments on "Briarpatch," "Vagrant Queen," "Will & Grace" and their "I Love Lucy" episode, "Superstore" and CheyFest 2020 -- get destroyed! -- "Dispatches From Elsewhere," "Brockmire," "Cake," Syfy's "TZGZ," selected IFC rebroadcasts of "Mystery Science Theater 3000," and comments on "Better Call Saul," highlighting standout performances by Rhea Seehorn as Kim Wexler. Also, congratulations to Christine Morse on her and her lovely family's appearance in a regional commercial -- well done!

Finally, under Old Business, I talk about DVR issues I had while recording the series finale of "The Magicians," and I reorganize my approach to this production. Starting next episode, new episodes will drop as I catalog 25 discs. Enjoy!

Ep. 63: Unconventional Means

Hi! My name is Terry J. Aman and this installment marks my 63rd episode of "VideoFuzzy," my twice-monthly progress report on cataloging more than 2,800 VHS transfers and digital recordings. In this installment, titled "Unconventional Means," I discuss the 12th season finale of "Doctor Who" and its expansion of the Doctor's story as well as current and past adventures.

Oh, and Jodie Whittaker turned up in character on BBC's Doctor Who Official Twitter @bbcdoctorwho recently with a message for children and fans to help them through the global pandemic, which I thought was super classy, retweeted @tjVideoFuzzy.

My Cross Connections explores an FX documentary, "The Most Dangerous Animal of All," on an author whose research into his birth father convinced him he was the son of the Zodiac Killer.

In my VHS-to-DVD "Classic Collection," I talked about Lincoln Meyer abducting Shirley Schmidt in a third season episode of "Boston Legal." Also, decent candidate for a feature, Walter Matthau and Inger Stevens in the kinda gross "A Guide for the Married Man" from 1967, with comments on episodes of "The Simpsons" and "Fringe."

In my direct-to-DVD "Current Collection," I had to stream a couple of episodes of "The Magicians" ahead of the series finale this past week -- the basis for the title this time; I had to pull up ancient digital recordings I had of "Doctor Who," and stream episodes of "The Magicians," otherwise less-traveled media sources for this collection.

Also, lightning round discussion on "Brockmire," "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine," "The Sinner," "Briarpatch," "Dispatches From Elsewhere," "Better Call Saul," and "Motherland: Fort Salem."

Ep. 62: Everybody's Talking About How Bad This Is

Hi! My name is Terry J. Aman and this installment marks my 62nd episode of "VideoFuzzy," my twice-monthly progress report on cataloging more than 2,800 VHS transfers and digital recordings. In this installment, titled "Everybody's Talking About How Bad This Is," I highlight "Masks in the Moonlight," a benefit I attended for the Bismarck Cancer Center, and recommend the cause to anyone able to help.

I also discuss musical clips I've put together for past episodes, referencing television theme songs and so forth. With the potential for copyright infringement (none is or has ever been intended in this production), I'll be stepping away from including them in the future.

My "Friday Night Feature" highlights a pivotal episode of "Mad Men." In the run-up to the second season finale, Don deals with separation from his family as the ad firm undergoes major developments in his absence.

In "What I've Been Watching," Ralph and I attend a community theater production of "Greater Tuna," and the title reference, from the NBC series premiere of the Fran Drescher project "Indebted," that is, "Everybody's Talking About the Pilot." This was not a good show, but via "Golden Thread" extension from my "Cross Connections" discussion, I attempt to reconcile Steven Weber's role in that project and elsewhere in my collection, up to and including his significant role in Aaron Sorkin's "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip," which I've identified as one of the mystical centers of my media collection.

In my VHS-to-DVD "Classic Collection," I celebrate the debut of Kristin Chenoweth as Annabeth Schott in the sixth season of Aaron Sorkin's "The West Wing," the fourth episode, titled "Liftoff," with possible comic references to "Noises Off!"

In my direct-to-DVD "Current Collection," I discuss "Supernatural," the run-up to the 12th season finale of "Doctor Who," the third season of "Sherlock," the run-up to the 18th season finale of "Project Runway," the "Bad Tina" episode of "Bob's Burgers" and connections with "Parks and Recreation," premieres of USA shows "The Sinner" and "Briarpatch" and Aaron Paul rocked in the Netflix production "El Camino" (2019).

And in VideoFuzzy at the Movies, "Birds of Prey, and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn" was awesome!

Ep. 61: Watching Terrible Movies

Hi! My name is Terry J. Aman and this installment marks my 61st episode of "VideoFuzzy," my twice-monthly progress report on cataloging more than 2,800 VHS transfers and digital recordings. In this installment, titled "Watching Terrible Movies," I open with reflections on the recent passing of Terry Jones, and celebrate some of his iconic work with Monty Python's Flying Circus.

In my "Friday Night Feature," I talk about "Fata Morgana," a first-season episode of "Sanctuary" on Syfy, and chat about some of the strengths and weaknesses of the show at this stage of its production. I trace Cross Connections to the show, as well as Terry Jones' work, and appearances by Nicholas Brendan and Marc Vann in "Criminal Minds."

In my Classic Collection, I talk about Monty Python sketches I was cataloging as I learned of Jones' passing. Also, David Allen Grier's Comedy Central production "Chocolate News," and some Daily Show and Colbert Report's interstitial tomfoolery called "Who's the Toss?"

In my Current Collection, I talk about the animated reproduction of an original series fourth season serial of "Doctor Who" from the Patrick Troughton era, "The Macra Terror," then trace some of those themes through some more recent episodes, along with comments on "Fugitive of the Judoon." I then chat about "Supernatural," "Superstore" and "The Magicians," and explore a few thoughts about the series finale of "The Good Place" -- just ... wow.

In "VideoFuzzy at the Movies," I chat with Jesse Zimmerman of "The Average Movie Nerd" blog in the title reference for this episode, to wit: Watching Terrible Movies. We got together and watched "The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra" (2001) "Hail Caesar" (1994), "Rockula" (1990) and "Repo! The Genetic Opera" (2008) and then ... discussed them.

Finally, in Upcoming Shows, a look ahead at the return of "Miracle Workers: The Dark Ages" on TBS, "Better Call Saul" on AMC and "The Sinner" on USA, premieres of "Briarpatch" on USA and "Indebted" on NBC, plus "Birds of Prey" opens in theaters, looks like a fun romp. Enjoy!
