Ep. 77: A Mighty Wind

Hi! My name is Terry J. Aman and this installment marks my 77th episode of VideoFuzzy, reporting the progress I've made in cataloging nearly 3,000 VHS transfers and digital recordings.

For this installment, titled "A Mighty Wind," in my Friday Night Feature I talk about Christopher Guest's folk music-centered semi-scripted comedy "A Mighty Wind." I wanted to share a couple links to songs from that production: The New Main Street Singers' "Potato's in the Paddy Wagon," and Mitch & Mickey's "Kiss at the End of the Rainbow." In Cross Connections, I highlight Michael McKean as a Golden Thread through my media collection, with Fond Reflections on David L. Lander, Markie Post, Ed Asner and Norm MacDonald.

In my Classic Collection (VHS-to-DVD transfers), I've cataloged through disc 1,200, and saved a searchable copy to an old e-reader. Using this index, I tracked down all 10 episodes I've archived of "The Unusuals," mining for the comedy gold represented by Marisa Vural's Dispatcher character, sharing some of her best intercom announcements.

Also, encountered some amazing music while cataloging this one, including: Civil Twilight's "Letters from the Sky," Kat Power's "Metal Heart," and Daler Mehndi's "Tanuk Tanuk Tun," with comments on "The Unusuals," "The Simpsons," a pre-#metoo Chuck Lorre title card from a "The Big Bang Theory," former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee's appearance on "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart" discussing abortion, and an extrapolation of data presented in an ABC Obama White House town hall ahead of the Affordable Care Act on life expectancy and world population growth. Oh, and comments on Russell T. Davies' "The Next Doctor" and implications for more recent storyline developments ahead of his returning as showrunner for the show's 60th anniversary.

In my Current Collection (digital recordings), comments on "SurrealEstate," 1980s movies "Kidco" and "9 to 5," 1960s schlocky Pat Boone spookfest "The Horror of It All" and Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly in 2018's "Holmes and Watson." Also, "American Horror Stories" and "American Horror Story: Double Feature."

For this installment, titled "Building a Mystery," in my Friday Night Feature I talk about the first nine episodes of ABC 2009 murder mystery "Harper's Island." (WATCH video here) In Cross Connections, I highlight Christian Clemenson as a Golden Thread through my media collection.

Then, in response to a review by the "All About Agatha" podcasting team of Kemper Donovan and Catherine Brobeck, I post a VideoFuzzy Book Report on "At Bertram's Hotel" (WATCH video here) and kick off my Classic Collection (VHS-to-DVD) commentary with a deep cut commentary on my recording of "At Bertram's Hotel," archived to discs 199 and 200.

Moving into my more recent cataloging, I've gotten through disc 1,175. I talk about network productions like "Un-Broke," "Earth 2100" with Bob Woodruff and Brian Williams' tour of Obama's White House. Also, late night guest appearances by Pearl Jam, Green Day, Bill Cosby and Melody Gardot lead into comments on a couple Current Collection productions on Freddie Mercury and Queen. I found the NBC series premiere of "The Listener," second season finale of AMC's "Breaking Bad," and a beautiful voiceover from an episode of USA's "In Plain Sight" I wanted to share.

In my Current Collection (digital recordings), I enjoyed the first seasons of "Kevin Can F*** Himself," "Kung Fu" and "Rebel," as well as the second seasons of "A Discovery of Witches" and "Motherland: Fort Salem." I'm getting into "SurrealEstate," I have some thoughts on IFC's rebroadcast of "The Kids in the Hall," and more of a housekeeping item but from my blog entry I find that I've recorded two discs X405.

In what I've been watching, I opened with our visit to the Cornstock Theater in Peoria's summer production of "The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged) (Revised)" which was a lot of fun. I chat about Joel McHale's "Crime Scene Kitchen" and streaming episodes of "American Horror Stories" ahead of the tenth season of "American Horror Story: Double Feature" premiering this month.

Ep. 75: Be Kind, Rewind

Hi! My name is Terry J. Aman and this installment marks my 75th episode and fourth year anniversary production of "VideoFuzzy," reporting the progress I've made in cataloging nearly 3,000 VHS transfers and digital recordings. Delayed somewhat by our first roadtrip out of state since the fall of 2019 -- WORTH IT -- my Friday Night Feature this installment, I talk about Mos Def, Jack Black, Danny Glover and Melonie Diaz in an HBO presentation of 2008's "Be Kind, Rewind."

I skip lightly past Cross Connections, touching on Jack Black and Allyce Beasley over the course of the episode, and brief Fond Reflections of Irv Gooch and Ned Beatty, and I highlight Danny Glover as a Golden Thread through my media encounters.

In my Classic Collection (VHS-to-DVD), I have cataloged through disc 1,150. I dig into Damon Wayans, Jada Pinkett Smith and Michael Rapaport in Spike Lee's "Bamboozled" (2000); with comments on David Lynch's "Blue Velvet" and "Eraserhead"; Jon Stewart's Wacky List of Things: Bad Ways to Learn You've Been Fired From Your Life's Work; "Superstore's" Ben Feldman's appearances in "Medium" and "Mad Men"; an appearance by Stan Lee in "The Simpsons"; dueling reviews on the fourth season finale of "Bones"; Apu Nahasapeemapetilon antics and a misdelivered line in "Coming to Homerica," the 20th season finale of "The Simpsons," and "The Golden Compass."

In my Current Collection (digital recordings), I recently cataloged Disc X400 in my Current Collection, comments on the FX Pride documentaries ahead of the third and final triumphant season of "Pose," Katey Sagel in "Rebel," the "Scrubs" sixth season musical episode of "My Musical," "Kids in the Hall" and "Chad," and such movies as Frank Sinatra as "Tony Rome" (1967), "Chances Are" (1989), "Pulp Fiction" (1994), "Glass" (2019) and "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes" (1953).

In my Streaming activities, I stream the final sixth season episode of "Community" IFC declined to rebroadcast. Also, I highlight Cornstock Theatres' streaming stage production of "Talk Radio" on May 29, ahead of their production of "The Complete Works of Shakespeare (Abriged) [Revised]," with comments on a recent PBS "Great Performances" production of Anton Chekov's "Uncle Vanya."
