Ep. 55: The Art of Failure

Hi! My name is Terry J. Aman and this installment marks my 55th episode of "VideoFuzzy," my twice-monthly progress report on cataloging more than 2,800 VHS transfers and digital recordings. In this installment, titled "The Art of Failure," I feature the series premiere of Kurt Sutter's FX biker drama "Sons of Anarchy," which I thought got the show off to a good start.

In Cross Connections, I pull up "Studio Six Feet Under" connections from a realization that Ally Walker was the actor I misremembered in the third season of "Sons of Anarchy," and ties tracing through my collection from her '90s crime drama "Profiler." Also, I trace connections through HBO documentary "The Art of Failure: Chuck Connelly Not For Sale." And in Old Business, I explore the inclusion of a scene from the pilot episode of Kurt Sutter's FX crime drama "The Shield" in an episode of the third season of Noah Hawley's mindbending production of "Legion."

In my Classic VHS-to-DVD Collection, I rave about an HBO documentary that turned up in my collection called "The Art of Failure: Chuck Connelly Not For Sale." Also, scenes from the 2008 GOP convention, compared and contrasted with sixth season episodes that turned up of "The West Wing," episodes of "Medium," "Will & Grace," "Dead Like Me," "Monk," "My Name is Earl," "Boston Legal," "The Office," "30 Rock," "Criminal Minds," and the fun 2002 blaxploitation film "Undercover Brother."

In my direct-to-DVD Current Collection, comments on movies I archived including "Rough Night" and the Burton/Schumacher "Batman" franchise, then the CW productions of "Batwoman" and "Nancy Drew" (pass); some discussion of the series finale of "Preacher," season premieres of "Superstore" and "The Good Place," the Syfy miniseries "Channel Zero: Candle Cove," "AHS: 1984" on FX, and the 15th season premiere of "Supernatural." I pass on "Perfect Harmony" and "Bless the Harts," with comments on the third season of "BoJack Horseman," the 10th season premiere of "Bob's Burgers," the FXX premiere of "Cake" and sixth season episodes of "Psych."
